About us:
Playground Music Magazine is an independently published monthly pdf music
magazine. We're free to download and each issue contains interviews with
big name and unsigned bands, reviews and one-click links to free downloads
and preview tracks by the featured artists. There's more information about
the magazine on the front page of the site. You
can also subscribe from there if you want to check us out.
Who we are:
The Playground team is a random group of coders, designers, writers and
ex-music industry people who are doing this part-time for fun and challenge.
The entire project is running on love, goodwill and an overdraft... whether
we're working on it for the odd spare hour or near full-time, everyone
chips in the time they can afford and everyone works to hit deadlines.
The magazine came together because we all share a love of music and most
of us have worked on mags or 'zines or around music and we're at out happiest
when we're discovering, writing or making stuff.
Our aim:
Our aim is to put together (over a few issues) the magazine we always
wanted to read... something instantly available from any place in the
world, free of charge, and with new bands, music, writers, photographers
and things that we'd really want to hear about. We also wanted something
we could play with. Like our own skunkworks... Somewhere we can try and
figure out how to do the things we love about publishing while folding
in all the tricks that the web and new media can do. It's like in a perfect
music magazine you don't just read about bands... you can hear them or
watch them or chat directly with them if they're doing something you really
dig. You don't just read about stuff. You join in with it.
The appeals for help and contributors throughout the magazine and the
website are genuine. It's always more fun to share and play and swap ideas
with as many people as possible. It's how we go this far. And every new
person who joins in brings fresh ideas and skills which help us out immensely.
In return, we're happy to plug any projects that contributors have running
and share anything with them that we've learnt along the way as well as
doing whatever we can to help them with their stuff.
Still to do:
We still have much to do but we finally got our issue one prototype
up and finished. Issue two is already underway, with a bigger selection
of bands, a big increase in the free stuff, more writers and columns and
a few new tricks that didn't make it into this issue. And if we do our
job right, each issue is going to improve on the last until we finally
get the magazine we want.
If you want to get in touch, help out, or just chat, drop us a line.
There's mail forms and contact details all over the site. Feedback is
good and its always great to meet new people. If there's anything else
you want to know, hit us with a mail and we'll get back to you.
Thanks for checking us out and thanks to everyone who's supported us
this far. We owe you.
Good luck with whatever you're doing out there. Drop a message anytime.
The team.
